In June 2025, Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) and the Hydrogen Purity Task Force brought together operators from across the EU to agree on a key piece of the hydrogen puzzle: purity. After months of consultation, members landed on a minimum hydrogen purity standard of 98%.

This figure strikes the right balance—technically reliable, legally sound, and economically viable—paving the way for hydrogen to blend seamlessly into Europe’s existing gas infrastructure.
